Beginning January 8, PS122 presents the much anticipated US debut of Instructions for Forgetting by Forced Entertainment, described as ‘Britain’s most brilliant experimental theatre group.’ (The Guardian).

Instructions for Forgetting is a solo piece by the company’s artistic
director, Tim Etchells. Using home-movie, interviews, letters and tapes from friends alongside recordings of world events, the piece is an intimate documentary performed in a space strewn with video monitors, VCRs, cables and untidy stacks of videotapes.

Part intimate essay, part fragmentary narrative Instructions for Forgetting is a surprising and comical performance, a mapping of the
links between personal history and the broader histories called culture and politics.

Described as ‘one of the most important performance groups in Europe,’ (der Tagesspiegel), Forced Entertainment’s history as a permanent ensemble of artists is recognised as unique in contemporary theatre.

Widely acclaimed throughout the UK and Europe, the company has produced projects in theatre, live art, installation, digital media, publication and video. 2004 marks the company’s twentieth anniversary, and their first substantial visit to the US, with dates in New York, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, and Chicago.
